Types of Kitchen Floor Plans!

Your kitchen floor plan is going to be the foundation of your project, and one area where you need to ensure that you spend most of your time. If you do not have a design eye about you, calling in a designer to layout the floor plan may be a great idea that usually doesn’t cost too much. The floor plan you decide to use depends greatly on the size of the kitchen area you are dealing with. When you are planning your own designs, you want to make sure that the cook has plenty of room to move around, and that everything is located in convenient spots. Here are 4 of the most common types of kitchen floor plans.

1) U Shaped Floor Plan

The U shaped kitchen floor plan utilizes three walls in your kitchen to provide excellent storage space. The shape of the design also allows the cook to easily move from station to station while they are preparing, cooking dinner, or cleaning up after dinner. This design does close off your kitchen from guests, however, by only allowing one choked off entrance.

2) L Shaped Floor Plan

The L shaped kitchen floor plan is another that homeowners are falling in love with. This design provides a much more open layout in your kitchen, allowing your guests to communicate with the cook. The L shaped design does sacrifice counter space and cabinet storage in order to open up the 3rd wall, however. If you typically have a large amount of foot traffic in the kitchen with you while you are cooking, the L shaped floor plan may be better suited to your home.

3) Island Floor Plan

When your kitchen is extremely large and you need to close the gaps between your countertops, sink, stove, and prep area, an island floor plan is a great design. The island floor plan places a kitchen island, or cart in the middle of your walkway to help close the gap in the triangle that cooks walk while preparing dinner. Rather than having to walk across the entire kitchen, the island allows you a stop area where you can continue prepping, store prepped food, or gather the dishes to allow your guests to eat.

4) Galley Floor Plan

These types of floor plans are typically associated with smaller apartments and studios. The galley kitchen floor plan completely cuts off any guest foot traffic that you may have. These designs also limit the amount of storage and countertop space that you have in the kitchen.  However, the floor paint will be fully visible with this design.
